After recently introducing the passkeys feature for Android users, the popular messaging app is now testing the ‘View Once’ mode for voice notes on both iOS and Android platforms. This feature is in the beta testing phase and is expected to be available to a wider user base in the near future.
Previously, WhatsApp allowed users to set the ‘View Once’ mode for images and videos, enabling recipients to view media only once before it disappears. Now, this same functionality is being extended to voice notes.
The feature is currently being tested among select beta users on WhatsApp beta for Android via the Google Play Store and WhatsApp beta for iOS via the TestFlight app. Compatibility for this ‘View Once’ mode for audio messages includes WhatsApp beta for Android versions 2.23.21.15 and 2.23.22.4, while on iOS, WhatsApp beta version 23.21.1.73 is reportedly compatible with the update.
The ‘View Once’ mode for voice notes ensures that the audio message cannot be saved or forwarded to other users, enhancing privacy and security. In the chat interface, users will see the familiar ‘View Once’ icon in the voice message chat bar, allowing them to activate the ‘View Once’ mode for the voice note. Once sent, the voice note in ‘View Once’ mode cannot be replayed, saved, or shared.
WhatsApp has been actively improving its privacy features, including the development of a secret code feature for locked chats. This feature would enable users to create custom passwords for their protected chat folders.
Moreover, WhatsApp recently rolled out support for passkeys on Android, allowing users to securely log back into their accounts using biometric authentication or their device’s PIN. This feature permits users to use facial recognition or fingerprint scanning on their Android devices to access their WhatsApp accounts with a passkey stored on the device.
As this ‘View Once’ mode for voice notes undergoes beta testing, WhatsApp users can anticipate a safer and more private messaging experience on the platform.
